ACT: Advanced Coxswain Training Program (Lifeboat)

OBJECTIVE

The objective of this course is to enable lifeboat coxswains to maintain their skills through simulation augmented lifeboat drills.  This course is optimized for onboard training and supports compliance with the following:

  • MODU Code: MSC.1/Circ.1486 - Intermediate Training forming part of an Alternate Compliance Program

  • SOLAS:  MSC.1/Circ.1578 - Additional Special Drills to augment traditional SOLAS boat drills

  • ISM Code - Paragraph 8.2 - Emergency Preparedness

  • Lifeboat Systems

  • Launch and Release

  • Clear Away and Operate

  • Survival and Rescue

Simulation-Based Practical Training Exercises

  • Perform Pre-Launch Checks

  • Launch and Recover a Survival Craft from an Installation

  • Operate Sprinkler and Air Systems

  • Steer visually and by Compass

  • Execute a Search Pattern

  • Recover a Person-in-Water

  • Tow Liferafts and other Vessels

  • Pace another Vessel

  • Emergency Radio Communications

DURATION:

  • 5 hours / per candidate

  • 2 hours of Lecture

  • 3 hours of Simulation Exercises

TRAINING LOCATION: Canada - 47 Bremigen’s Blvd, Paradise, NL or onboard

VALIDITY: Two and a Half (2 ½) Years
