ACT: Advanced Coxswain Training Program (Fast Rescue Boat)

OBJECTIVE

The objective of this course is to enable Fast Rescue Boat coxswains to maintain their skills through simulation augmented boat drills.  This course is optimized for onboard training and supports compliance with the following:

  • SOLAS Chapter III/Reg 26 - Fast Rescue Boat Drills

  • STCW Section A-VI/2 Paragraph 12 - Continued Proficiency for Fast Rescue Boat Coxswains

  • STCW: MSC/Circ. 1161 - Guidance on training fast rescue boats launch and recovery teams and boat crews

  • ISM Code - Paragraph 8.2 - Emergency Preparedness taking into account the guidance provided in Resolution A.1072(28).

  • Equipment Familiarization

  • Maneuvering

  • Capsize and Re-Righting

  • Search Patterns and Rescue

Simulation-Based Practical Training Exercises

  • Perform Pre-Launch and Pre-Recovery Checks

  • Launch and Recover a FRB from a Vessel

  • Steer visually and by Compass

  • Execute a Search Pattern

  • Recover a Person-in-Water

  • Tow Liferafts and other Vessels

  • Pace another Vessel

DURATION:

  • 3 hours / per candidate

  • 1 hour of Lecture

  • 2 hours of Simulation Exercises

TRAINING LOCATION: Canada - 47 Bremigen’s Blvd, Paradise, NL or onboard

VALIDITY: Two and a Half (2 ½) Years
