STCW REF-PSC Refresher Training Course

OBJECTIVE

The aim of the course is to refresh the seafarers’ skills in the operation of survival craft and rescue boats augmented with Lifeboat, Rescue Boat, Davit Launch Life raft Simulators recognized and approved by Transport Canada.

Comply with Chapter VI, Section A-VI/2, paragraph 4 of the STCW Code. Requirement to show evidence that standard competence to undertake the tasks, duties, and responsibilities listed in column 1 of table A-VI/2-1 of the Convention are maintained every 5 years.

CONTENT

  • Discussion and Demonstration of various davit/launching arrangements

  • Explain various types of lifeboat and survival craft

  • Discussion and Demonstration of Liferafts, rigid hull liferafts, and marine evacuation systems

  • Review and Demonstrate Survival, First Aid and Rescue

  • Maneuvering Survival Craft in various conditions

  • Discussion on Helicopter Assistance

The practical training exercises conducted in survival craft simulator includes as follows:

  • Survival Craft handling, including launching and recovery of enclosed lifeboat

  • Survival Craft maneuvering in various sea states, time of day, and environmental conditions

  • Steer a lifeboat by compass in reduced visibility

  • Pacing and towing with other craft, including other survival craft and FRB

  • Rescue and Survival, including PIW rescue

  • Conduct voice communications over the VHF radio during abandonment situation exercises

DURATION

  • Minimum of 13 hours of combined lecture and practical exercises
